A Ginger Snap! Friends, Flowers & Fun!

Stampin' Up rocked it with the new Flower Shop stamp set & the coordinating Pansy Punch.  If you go back in time, you will remember a technique where you heat embossed with white embossing powder on vellum cardstock.  It's been a while since I used that technique on a card.  But, the Flower Shop stamp seemed like a good candidate.

After embossing the flowers, I turned the vellum over.  Using ink pads with sponge daubers, I colored the back of the image with different color inks.  Some people like to use markers but I wanted a little more control on the color intensity and I feel that daubers give me that control.  You can apply as little or as much ink as you desire.  And, I did not have to stay in the lines because the flowers would be punched out.  Craft ink can take a long time to dry on vellum but the first setting on the Heat Tool worked like a charm to dry the ink quickly. No fussy cutting for this girl!  The Pansy Punch is a sweet match for the Flower Shop stamp set

The Honeycomb Embossing Folder provides some texture for the background.  After adhering my flowers with glue dots, I felt that the card needed more color.  The 3/8" Ruffle Stretch Trim stacked 3-deep with the help of glue dots, added a unique look.  But, I still felt that the card needed something else.

You probably noticed that I have a pattern of "three" going on with this card.   Must be my math background or something, but I really wanted to continue the pattern of three.  Consequently,   I needed a smallish sentiment in order to repeat the pattern on 3 strips of In Color c.s.  I stamped the sentiment in Jet Black Staz On and of course,  the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig was a neccesity for me to get these lined up.

The sun is shining with  beautiful blue skies and a balmy temperature of 80 degress.  Could the day be any more perfect?  Well, maybe if I was sitting on my deck with an icy cold glass of ice tea visiting with you!

Almost as nice as the scenario above, I have been in my cool (not icy cold) basement dreamining about flowers and butterflies.  This morning I knew that I wanted to create a z-fold card with some flowers.  That was about the extent of my idea.  But, you know how it goes.  You start creating and pretty soon the card kinda has a direction it wants to go.  Or at least, that is what it was like today.

Later in the week, I will try to post some hints about using the Pansy Punch to punch out the flowers stamped with the Flower Shop.  I discovered a trick by trial and error for lining up the punch and the flower.  Be sure to check back.

The sentiment is usually the last thing that I stamp.  Looking at the white embossed cardstock, I decided that I needed a bit of color.  So, keeping with the "summer" theme, I stamped the sentiment found in the Six-Sided Sampler on a bird punched out of Daffodil Delight from the Brights DSP Stack with the Bird Builder Punch.  Whoo – that was a mouth full!

Because the card is a z-fold card, I wanted to make sure that it would stay closed until the card is opened.  The new Crisp Cantaloups 3/8" Ruffle Stretch Trim not only dressed the card up with a punch of color, but because the ribbon is stretchy, it makes it easy to slide it off and on the card.

A Ginger Snap! To Confess or Not?

The question of the day is whether I should confess or not?  What do you think?  Okay, here comes the confession.  When I first saw the stamp set Regarding Dahlias, I did not like it at all.  Several days later, when I looked at it again, I LOVED it.  I am embarrassed now to think about what I thought about this set.  I am sure that we will become good friends!  Don't be surprised if you see this set used again on my blog.

Looking at this stamp, it struck me that it would be very nice just stamped in black with little or nor color.  I like the combination of black & yellow so I knew that I would use yellow as my accent color.

My favorite paper pack this week is Modern Medley.  The polka dot background came from this pack.  I have been itching to use the new Candy Dots.  And, they were the perfect accent for the sentiment.  A bit of Daffodil Delight 1/4" Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon added the final touch.
