I have been anxious to try the Painter Tape technique.  It is pretty easy to do but a bit messy.  Because it is  possible to create muted colors with this technique, I decided that  it would work well for a sympathy card.  Let's look at the card and then I will explain the technique.

Rip a strip of blue painters tape that is slightly larger than the width of your card.  Lay the strip on your ink pad and gently press the sticky side of the tape into an open Classic Ink Pad.  Watch your fingers!  You don't want to ink them. It is not neccessary to cover every inch of the tape with ink.  Matter of fact, you actually get a better effect if the tape has some "artisitic edges".

Carefully remove the tape from the ink pad.  I prefer to stamp off with it just like you do with a stamp. Then I place the tape on my card and rub the backside of the tape.  Move the tape up and repeat without reinking the tape.  Repeat the procedure with your remaining ink colors.

I stamped the tulip from the Blessed Easter Stamp Set with Basic Gray Ink.  In addition, I also stamped the sentiment from Love & Sympathy with Basic Gray Ink.  The flag end was created with the Hexagon Punch.

A splash of color was added with the Coastal Cabana 3/8" Ruffle Stretch Trim and an In Color Boutique Detail.  This piece was then mounted on a piece of Pistachio Pudding cardstock that was embossed with the Scallop Textured Impressions Embossing Folder found on page 32 of the Celebrate the Everyday Catalog.
