Stampin' Up! publishes a bimonthly magazine called Stampin' Success that is full of ideas created by conept artists from Stampin' Up! These ideas are designed for Demonstrators to use. That's right – they are created just for us to Copy & Share (CAS). In addition, the magazine usually includes articles about trends or some other relevant topic.
One of the most common responses that I hear when I ask someone to join the Gingerstampers is that they do not feel that they are creative enough. I hear things like, "I could never come up with ideas like you do", or "I wouldn't know where to begin".
For the next couple of weeks, I am going to share with you some cards from the magazine that were created by talented folks and then I am go to share with you several cards that I made based off of their design. Remember that Stampin' Up! encourages us to use this resource!
The first card uses some wild dsp from the Kaleidoscope pack. Although I liked the paper, I felt it was a little busy for a card. But, I really do like the way the artists used the dsp in this card.
One of the most important design tips that I learned from this card is to pay attention to the little details. As you can see, this is not a hard card to duplicate but I love the way the artist pulled out various colors from the dsp. The skinny strip of Bermuda Bay cardstock creates a boundry between the dsp and the sentiment. Because the sentiment is at the top of the card, this strip tends to ground the sentiment.
Notice the repition of the "triangle" pattern from the dsp provided by the the Crushed Curry triangle under the ribbon and button. The new triangle punch made it extra quick to crreate this element. And, the addition of the black elements tends to tone done the vivid dsp. The sentiment in Black Staz On coordinates with both the black triangles in the dsp and with the 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon bow.
Beacuse the Kaleidoscope dsp is the star of the card, a Basic Metal Button adds the final touch. Tied with a piece of Whisper White Baker's Twine, the button doen't compete with the dsp but rather works with it by playing off the Smoky Slate triangles in the dsp. See what I mean about paying attention to the details!
I made an envelope to go with the card. The dsp is just the reverse side of the piece used in the card. The Envelope Punch Board makes it soooo easy to create envelopes to match our cards. The finished size of this card is 3" x 6" so it requires a special envelope.
Please keep this card in your mind because in the next few days I will be showing cards that I created based on this same design. Get all of those wild pieces of dsp out of your stash because now we have a way to use them!
