A Ginger Snap! Faux Frame & Strawberries!

I love the look of a faux frame on a card so today I created one using the strawberry found in the Fresh Fruit Stamp Set.

Strawberry right

Ginger's Snaps:

  • Watermelon Wonder Card Base 8-1/2 x 5-1/2 scored at 4-1/4
  • Basic Black  4-5/8 x 3-3/8
  • Whisper White 4-1/2 x 3-1/4

Stamp a strawberry with Watermelon Wonder Ink followed by the strawberry vine with stamped off Cucumber Crush Ink. Follow this same procedure two more times until you have 3 strawberries.  Stamp "happy birthday" with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.

Strawberry left

Cut a scrap piece of card stock 3-3/4 x 2-1/2.  Center this piece over the Whisper White art piece & use a Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker to draw a line around your card stock piece lifting the pen when you come to a stamped image.

Run a small strip of Snail Adhesive where the strawberries meet.  Create loops of Black Metallic Thread and cut the closed ends so you have lengths of the thread.  Fashion into a bow and press into the adhesive.  Top with a White Perfect Accent.

Strawberry inside
The inside of the card also has some stamped strawberries and a line image drawn the same way as was done on the front of my card.  The sentiment is also from the Fresh Fruit stamp set.  This sentiment makes me smile because our 4 grandchildren always ask us to tell them stories from the past.  Somehow it just seems appropriate because they never seem to tire of the "old" stories.

A Ginger Snap! Happy Birthday Katie!

My husband Bob & I recently had the pleasure of attending our Granddaughter Katie's 9th birthday party.  She had a mystery party with the object to determine who stole the party favors!  It was tons of fun and we even participated as witnesses.  The kids questioned us and we had scripted answers.  It was hilarious.  Yes, they solved the mystery and the party favors were returned to the party!  This is the card I made for Katie.

Katie is growing up and I thought she would appreciate a card that reflected that change. When I first saw the Sweet Cupcake stamp set & matching Cupcake Cutout framelits, I really did not think I needed them.  However, at On Stage Live in April, Sara Douglass (Stampin' Up! CEO) showed us how to make the cupcake look like it has real frosting – yes, you heard that right!

Can you see the raised areas that appear thicker? That is the frosting.  I will share the recipe later in this post.

Ginger's Snaps:

  • 4-1/4" x 11" Watermelon Wonder Cardbase scored at 5-1/2".  Emboss the base with the Large Polka Dot Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.
  • 3-5/8" x 4-1/2" Whisper White C.S. mat.  The bottom edge is cut with a scallop from the Popcorn Box Thinlits.
  • 3-1/2" x 4-3/8" Bermuda Bay Polka Dot DSP found in the Brights DSP Stack.  The bottom edge is also cut with the scallop from the Popcorn Box Thinlits.
  • Cut a Whisper White Circle & a Watermelon Wonder Scallop Circle using the Layering Circles Collection Framelits.  Emboss the Whisper White Circle with the Large Polka Dot Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.
  • Stamp the cupcake bottom on Whisper White C.S. using Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, & Early Espresso Inks.  Cut the image out using the Cupcake Cutouts Framelits.
  • Stamp the cupcake top on Whisper White C.S. using Blushing Bride, Flirty Flamingo & Watermelon Wonder Inks. Cut this image out with the same framelits as above.
  • Stamp the last layer in the frosting mix -recipe below – by spreading the frosting on either a plastic lid or a clear block.  Carefully dip the stamp into the frosting but don't press down.  Stamp onto the stamped cupcake top image from above.  Allow to completely dry.
  • Make sure that you immediately wash both your stamp & blocks.

I used Watermelon Wonder Reinker in my frosting,  In my photo, you can see the frosting layer as the thicker layer on the cupcake.  In addition, I used the Clear Wink of Stella in order to make it shine.

Here's a closeup.

The candle is stamped on Bermuda Bay c.s. with Soft Suede Ink & cut out with the Cupcake Cutouts Framelits. The candle also got a Wink of Stella application.  Did you see that bit of Whisper White Baker's Twine that represents the candle wick?

The sentiment is also stamped on Bermuda Bay c.s. with Soft Suede Ink. It is punched out with the Classic Label Punch.

A Ginger Snap! Biggest Birthday Ever!

Today is the day to start creating a stash of birthday cards and I decided to go big!  The Biggest Birthday Ever seemed like a fun place to start.

Party Hat rt

When I saw the birthday party hat created with this set at On Stage, I knew that I wanted to make one.  The bottom of the ice cream cone makes a perfect party hat when turned over.  The best part is that this set has matching Wish Big Framelit Dies.

The vibrant colors in one of the patterns found in the Festive Birthday DSP seemed perfect for my birthday hat,  Using the framelit, I cut 2 party hats &  trim for the bottom of the hat. Attach 1 party hat to the card & fold the other hat in half & attach to the 1st party hat.  Only apply a thin strip of glue in the middle of the hat .

Party Hat Strt

Melon Mambo Thick Baker's Twine makes it easy to create a matching tassel.  It is slipped under the party hat flower topper which is adorned with a Crushed Curry Enamel Shape. The base of my card is Bermuda Bay which is difficult to photograph because it always looks more blue.

Party Hat inside

More fun for the inside of the card with the ice cream cone.  Stamping & cutting with the matching thinlit dies makes it so easy to create a fun cone for the inside of my card.  The birthday banner & sentiments can be found in the Birthday Banners Stamp Set & the coordinating Bunch of Banners Framelits Dies.  For a closer look at the sentiment, check out the picture below.
