The answer – the Hexagon Hive Thinlits Die is what I used to make a masculne birthday card for my post today. And, I have a few tips to share about using this die.
I used the Hexagon Hive Thinlits Die to cut a piece of Kaleidoscope Designer Series paper. The die cuts some hexagons out of the paper but leaves some intact. I kept some of the ones that were cut out for the inside of the card.
HINT: Place a piece of wax paper between the Hexagon Hive Die and the paper. This makes it easy to release the paper from the die. Trust me – you definitely want to do this! Ask me how I know. Yep, after wasting several pieces of paper, I realized that I should try the wax paper trick. It works!!
Notice that some of the hexagons have a smaller black hexagon stamped on them. I used the Hexagon stamp from the Geometrical Set. It is a nice way to be able to add some interest to the hexagons.
Speaking of adding interest, I wanted some small images to stamp in some of the blank hexagons. After looking through the catalog, I decided on A Fitting Occassion. The tie, crown, horseshoe and moustache are all from that set. The other 2 images are from Mosaic Madness.
Notice the "happy birthday" in the lower left corner. It is from Fabulous Phrases. Using the stamp-a-ma-jig, I was able to split birthday into 2 words so that they would fit my hexagons. Instead of inking the sentiment, I colored "birth" with a Bermuda Bay Marker and stamped it in a hexagon.. After cleaning the stamp, I repeated the process with the "day" part of the stamp.
See Ya Later from the Sale-a-bration catalog provided the inside sentiment. And, you can see some of those hexagons that I saved are scattered about for some color..
This was a very different card for me. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think. I am glad that I stepped out of my comfort zone to try something different. It does have a definite masculine tone.

Ginger!…This card is so different and cute ! Every detail is a wowie ! Very clever and creative and you made me re think getting that Hexagon die. I have tons of small stamps (love them) and you gave me some creative ideas …thank you . Happy Sunday !
This definitely is a man’s card, but I can see with different colors and stamps, it could be made very feminine too. I love that birthday stamp on the inside. That set is on my gotta have list. Another great card for the Scrapbook album you are going to make. 🙂
