Large background stamps, like Pleasant Poppies from Stampin' Up!, give a lot of bang for the buck. From the start, I loved this stamp and I wanted to try something different with it today. Because the First Edition dsp is retiring, I wanted to use it one last time too. This card is really quick and easy.
Pleasant Poppies was stamped on the First edition dsp with Black Staz On ink. A blender pen was used with the new In Color inks Strawberry Slush & Crisp Cantaloupe. Basic Black 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon tied in a bow finishes the card. The sentiment comes from the new Remembering Your Birthday stamp set that makes its debut May 31st. Great sentiments for birthdays!
While stampin yesterday, my eye wandered to the stack of scraps (leftovers) and misstamped images that I had accumulated as a result of past projects. Please tell me that I am not the only stamper with this collection! Anyhow, after looking through the stash, an idea came to me. How about a Trash to Treasure category on my blog. The idea pleased me immensely because I could put to good use some of those scraps and it would really test my creativity. So, allow me to introduce you to the first post in the new Trash to Treasure category.
First, a picture of all the scraps and some pictures about my process.
The punched out remains of the Quintessential Flower, a butterfly from the Bigz Butterfly Die , the large Whisper White Floral Framelit piece and the Whisper White Polka Dot Embossed scrap caught my attention. Now, what to do with them?? Next step –
Obviously, my start needed some work! I like white space but let's face it, this had too much. It was kinda boring. I decided to leave the butterfly on the Floral Framelit piece and stamp the Enfrancais stamp with Island Indigo Ink. Because the cardstock is a bit thick, I knew that it would leave an edge when I stamped. But I was okay with it.
Off to an okay start but what next? Some color would be nice. Looking over my scrap pile, the remains from the Quintessential Flower caught my eye. Using the Scallop Circle Punch to punch out the remains of the Quintessential Flower, gave me something to work with.
But, in order to work with these pieces, I needed a card base. The Island Indigo card base is not a scrap. The Fancy Fan Embossing Folder gave it just a touch of dimension and texture. Adhereing the other pieces was the next step.
The centers of the flowers needed something so keeping with the flower theme, I adhered some Brights Designer Buttons tied with Bakers twine. And, any self respecting butterfly needs some bling. Don't you love having Rhinestone Basic Jewels in strips.
This is what the card looks like laying flat.
On to the inside of the card. Under the pile of my stash, was a misstamped image from the Oh Hello stamp set. Using the Oval Framelits, I was able to rescue a useable piece for my sentiment. Rich Razzleberry was used to stamp the sentiment form the new Birthday Cake stamp set that will be available May 31st. Of course, dark cardstock needs some type of line. This is where the piece of Whisper White Embossed Polka Dot scrap found a home.
Although this not anything like most of my cards, I am happy with how it turned out and I feel good that I used some of my "trash". If you turn your trash into treasure, please share it with me. I am anxious to see what we can create.
Please leave me a comment to let me know what you think of the new category – Trash to Treasure! I appreciate each and every comment and I do read all of them.
Today I am sharing with you a card that can easily be changed up to work for either a male or a female birthday. The stamp set Easy Events from Stampin' Up! is a nice all-purpose stamp set that will give you you lots of mileage. Let me show you both versions of the card and then we can chat. I used Mojo Monday Sketch 292 for my cards.
Now the card for a male.
Did you see the differences in the two versions?
1. Different color card bases.
2. Different embossing folders on the backgrounds.
3. Different color mats & scallop circles.
4. Scallop border versus strip of paper in the middle of the cards.
5. Line image created with markers versus an image clored with blender pens and ink pads.
5. Piercing on the scallop circles of the female card.
6. Sentiment positioned on left versus right.

To get even more mileage from this set, I separate the image and the sentiment by cutting them apart. Then I can use the sentiment separately from the graphic. But, the image and the sentiment can easily be lined up as a unt, if you have clear stamps.
